Tame Impala - Expectation from Modular People on Vimeo.
Tame Impala does more than live up to our expectations with this awesome new video directed by Clemens Habicht.
This was the most epic opening act performance I’ve ever seen; I was completely floored by Stardeath + White Dwarfs last night at Bowery Ballroom. Fronted by the nephew of Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, they descended from a far corner of space (aka Oklahoma City) to fulfill their destiny as prophets of the psych rock revival.
Not much to say about Justin Maller’s work except, “Wow.”
Also from Australia, Pogo is a sampling genius and I’ve been hooked on his work ever since I heard his track, “Alice.” He creates amazing music by sampling famous films like ‘Hook’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Marry Poppins’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, etc. His accompanying videos are cut from the films and are also quite impressive. This is a more recent video from one of my all-time favorite films, ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’, and I’m totally in love with it. I am in awe of his patience and skill; his is master of the mashup. And you can download his music for free! Check out his Myspace or download tracks from Last.fm.
Concentricity 96 from Joshua Kirsch on Vimeo.
I like to play around with light sculpture, and have done a few light projects recently (including my Halloween costume), so Joshua Kirsch’s work is a huge inspiration. ‘Concentricity 96’ is an amazing piece that allows the user to interact and control the flow and direction of light. It’s part of a series of interactive sculpture. Says Kirsch on his portfolio site,
“Concentricity is an interactive light sculpture series. Each of the three works presents an illuminated white handle which the viewer is invited to move in any direction. Reed switches located within the sculpture’s circuitry sense the movements of a magnet contained in the handle and translate that information into LED light. Concentricity 96 employs 96 white LEDs that shine through the sculpture’s honeycomb-like aluminum frame to create shapes and patterns on the wall.”

This is nothing short of awesome. Print Magazine asked design studio Heads of State to create hypothetical packaging for marijuana, were it to be made legal in New York.
Love love love the work of French designer/illustrator Emmanuel Polanco.
Most remixes don’t get their own music videos, but luckily for us this one is an exception. I’ve had The xx and Florence and the Machine on repeat all fall, and together they are pure magic. Watch it, love it, download it.
